LIN TO JOIN THE 9^TH ASEAN SCHOOL GAMES

DAGUPAN CITY –Balon Dagupan swimmer multi-gold medalist Janelle Alisa Lin was chosen to be among the 21 Members of the Philippine Swimming Team bound for the 9^th ASEAN Schools Games in Singapore on July 15-19.

The ASEAN Schools Games is an annual regional championship for high school students in the Southeast Asia region.

Lin of Genesis School of Happy Kids and a member of the Balon Dagupan swimming team ruled both the 400-freestyle and 800-freestyle swimming events in the 2017 Palarong Pambansa secondary girls division earning one gold medal each. She also won a bronze in the 200-meter individual medley.

Lin is a three-year veteran of the Palarong Pambansa and admitted that in her first exposure she never won any medal until only in the 2016 Palarong Pambansa when she went home with a gold, three silvers and one bronze.

As a member of the Balon Dagupan swimming team, Lin has been training daily for two to three hours at the city’s newly renovated poolside under the B.T.F. Does it Program of Mayor Belen T. Fernandez.

Lin’s daily training under Mayor Fernandez’es program brought her to the pedestal of being the first Dagupan athlete who broke three national records and set new national records in the 2016 Batang Pinoy National Championships in Tagum City, Davao Del Norte.

She broke the 2012 national record of Erin Castrillo of Manila in 200M Individual Medley of 2:38.25 by setting a new national record of 2:35.87.

She also broke the 2012 national record of Marie Olegario of San Juan in 200-M backstroke of 2:39.22 with a new national record of 2:35.19.

Janelle also wiped out the 2015 national record of Aubrey Bermejo of Iligan City in 200-M Freestyle of 2:20.52 by setting a new national record of 2:18.17. Bermejo just broke the 14-year record of that event last year.

Lin was the city’s first athlete to win a medal in the Palarong Pambansa.

Mayor Fernandez was elated to see that one of the city’s be-medaled swimmers has been chosen to be part of the Philippine Swimmers team.

The last time the country joined the games was two years ago where the country’s swimmers won two silver and four bronze medals.

Lin will be competing along with this year’s Palarong Pambansa Most Valuable Player in the secondary division Maurice Sacho Ilustre and Nicole Meah Pamintuan.
