DAGUPAN CITY – Mayor Belen Fernandez and the Lyceum-Northwestern University College of Dentistry signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the conduct of the city’s Smile Dagupan Program and the university’s Adopt-A-School Program.
The memorandum of agreement will enable the L-NU College of Dentistry to operate under the umbrella of the SMILE Dagupan Program and implements its practices.
The Smile Dagupan Program is a series of dental missions conducted by the City Health Office (CHO) Dental Division, headed by Dr. Jude Veramor De Vera.
Smile Dagupan regularly visits the different nearby and far-flung barangays in the city to provide free dental health services such as dental check-up, consultation, lectures, tooth-brushing drills, oral prophylaxis, tooth extraction, sealants, and fluoride treatment.
With the agreement, the university hopes to provide assistance in Smile Dagupan’s campaign for improved oral health in the city.
The university will also be providing its own manpower to offer dental services to their chosen school, Malued Elementary School.
The L-NU College of Dentistry will not just be providing the necessary oral treatment for the school children but will also focus on preventive treatment in preventing the onset of oral problems that would distract the children from studying.
The program will officially start this February in time with the National Children’s Dental Health Month and will be conducted every Friday for five years.
The Smile Dagupan Program is under the “Alagang Balon Dagupan”, Mayor Belen Fernandez’s health initiative which focuses on the health and betterment of the lives of every Dagupeño and their families.(Marie Verdelle Jenica De Vera/CIO/Jan. 25, 2018)
