DAGUPAN CITY – Young City Mayor Jiliana Kay Madison S. Fernandez of the Pangasinan Universal Institute led other “Manlingkor ya Kalangweran” during the groundbreaking ceremony of the city’s Balon Dagupan Youth (Teen) Center at Poblacion Oeste on June 8.
With her were Mayor Belen T. Fernandez and Barangay Poblacion Oeste Punong Barangay Lolita Vallejos.
The center sits on a 300- square meter lot at the city’s poolside. The project was allotted P5 million from the city’s coffer.
Mayor Fernandez disclosed that the center is devoted exclusively for the city’s youth.
She intends to provide it with sports amenities and computers where teenagers can spend their time on Saturdays and Sundays.
“In our last trip to Milpitas along with the Manlingkor ya Kalangweran, we were inspired by that city’s own youth center and we are adopting the same for the welfare of our youth. This will keep our youth spend quality time in the center, which will be a good avenue in furthering their development rather than be exposed to unwanted vices,” said Fernandez.
Mayor Fernandez will adopt a whole year program or activities, which will keep the teenagers including the out-of-school youth, active in the center.
The groundbreaking was also witnessed by City Engineer Virginia Rosario, Dagupan City Sports Commissioner Finnela T. Sim, young city vice mayor Marla Ober of the Dagupan City National High School and the other 56 Manlingkor ya Kalangweran. (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO/June 8, 2017)
