DAGUPAN CITY – This city will soon operate its own information migration center in the barangays following an orientation on the establishment of Barangay Migration Information Center sponsored on June 7 by the national and regional offices of the Population Commission  at the Women’s Center.

Participants of the seminar included all barangay secretaries and the city’s Barangay Service Point Officers (BSPO) of the City Population Office, who will play a crucial role in the implementation of the program.

City Population Officer Leah L. Aquino disclosed that the city has been chosen by the Population Commission as its pilot city in the implementation of the program, which aims to make a comprehensive profiling of families living in the barangays in all aspects.

“Our city will be the first LGU to implement this not just in the region but in the entire country. We will serve as a pilot area and if this succeeds, other LGUs will replicate what we have established in the implementation of the program,” said Aquino.

Earlier all Punong Barangays and Barangay Kagawads have undergone the same seminar before the Barangay secretaries and the BSPOs.

Each participant were oriented on the objectives and phases of establishing the information migration center, the staffing and duties and responsibilities of migration information officers, which will the sole responsibility of all BSPOs in the barangay.

“Very soon we will start with the establishment of the center in the barangays which will be manned by our BSPOs,” said Aquino.

After the seminar, all BSPOs and barangay secretaries will start going around the barangays to establish a list of all residents with all the data needed in the implementation of the program.

“The role of our barangay secretaries here is very important as the alter ego of their punong barangays because they are the ones who issue barangay clearance and other certificates consistent with their role as barangay secretaries,” said Aquino.

On the other hand, Mayor Belen T. Fernandez sees the importance of the program as this will not just be about demographics and population but also for the safety of the people in the city by knowing who are everyone’s neighbors and those who are strangers. Joseph C. Bacani/CIO/June 8, 2017)
