DAGUPAN CITY – The City Health Office (CHO) along with the Department of Health (DOH), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Department of Education (DepEd) conducted free deworming activities in several schools here under the city’s ‘Alagang Balon Dagupan’ of Mayor Belen T. Fernandez and in observance of the National Deworming Month.
The National School Deworming Month is an initiative of the DOH in collaboration with DepEd and DILG.
It aims to conduct a nationwide, simultaneous effort to deworm all 5-18 years old children enrolled in public schools.
The mass deworming is scheduled to be done twice this year to eventually eliminate the source of STH or Soil-transmitted helminth infections.
“STH infections are transmitted by eggs present in human feces, which in turn contaminate soil in areas where water, sanitation and hygiene are poor,” said Dr. Anne Paragas of the CHO.
The team has been to Calmay Elementary School and at the Tondaligan Day Care Center.
Paragas assured that school-aged children enrolled in private schools and children who are not enrolled could avail of the free deworming services at the CHO, all health centers, rural health units and barangay health stations. (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO/Jan. 30, 2017)
