DAGUPAN CITY – The rich history of Dagupan City will be included soon in the Department of Education’s (DepEd) curriculum to enable every Dagupeño student to appreciate their beloved city's colorful past.
This after Dagupan City Culture and Arts Commission Chairman Gonzalo T. Duque turned over on January 26 two history modules prepared by historians and academicians to Mayor Belen T. Fernandez during the opening ceremony of the 1
st Children Summit on Health at the CSI Stadia.
“I will immediately present this to DepEd Secretary Armin Luistro to include the study of our city’s glorious past in the DepEd’s curriculum for next school year.” said Fernandez.
Fernandez lauded the commission especially Duque and Vice Chairman Aurora Samson Reyna for coming out with the modules about the city’s history to inspire the children and the next generation of Dagupeños what their ancestors did for their beloved city.
DepEd Schools Division Superintendent Froserfina J. Bravo is supportive about the inclusion of the city’s history in the DepEd’s curriculum.
The 1

The opening ceremony was graced by Congresswoman Leni Robredo, Former Energy Secretary Jericho Petilla, Congresswoman Manay Gina De Venecia and former House Speaker Jose De Venecia Jr.
The children also took part in storytelling, brush dance, jingle writing and singing, quiz bee on health, Battle of the Bands,Search for Mr. and Ms. Lactum, healthy salad and sandwich-making, spelling bee, singing contest and hip-hop dance competition.
“Thanks to DepEd Dagupan, Department of Health, Pangasinan Pediatric Society and Pangasinan Medical Society for partnering with us in this noble project aimed at improving the health of our children," Mayor Fernandez said.
It is important, she said, to invest on the health of the children while they are still young because this is the first step towards success, adding that In order to succeed, "one should first have a sound mind and a sound body,” (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO/Jan. 28, 2016)
