DAGUPAN CITY– The Private School Principals League (PSPL), in partnership with the Dagupan City Sports Commission (DCSC), conducted the 1st Inter-Private School Chess Championship on October 16 at the 2nd floor of the city museum here. “Gradually, we are changing the sports landscape in our city by developing and honing the skills of our athletes through a strong program in the different fields of sports and produce more champions, more winnings and medals," said Mayor Belen T. Fernandez when she delivered her message in that tournament. "I am happy that the PSPL, through the leadership of Mrs. Eunice A. Galindez, came up with a chess tournament among all private schools in the city which intends to sharpen the mind and test the patience of every player in every round, the mayor added. She said this is just the beginning as there will be more of this so the city can also produce grandmasters in the likes of Eugene Torre, among others,”  Mayor Fernandez  said. Emerging as winners in the tournament in the elementary boys division were Domingo Abalos of JCAI, gold medal; Kenneth Sebastian Estacio of LNU–CMC, silver medal; and Enrico Gene Salinas of Saint John Cathedral School, bronze medal. In the elementary girls division, the winners were Kriztiana Joie Ferrer of LNU-CMC, gold medal; Samantha Viray of La Salette School, silver medal; and Kim Salinas of SJCS, bronze medal. In the high school division the winners in the girls category were Geraldine Kate Cercado of Saint John Cathedral School, gold; Kathleen Paras of DWAD, silver; and Catherine Louise Gabriel of St. Michael School, bronze; while in the boys division Kyle Brent Gallego of La Salette School, gold; John Rhuiz Bravo of La Salette School, silver; and Raven Paul Agacita of LNU-FQDMFSSHS, bronze.
