DAGUPAN CITY – Senator Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara and Mayor Belen T. Fernandez led the groundbreaking ceremony for a new multi-purpose covered court gym at West Central Elementary School I on April 27.
With them were Mrs. Venus Estonillo of DepEd Dagupan, WCES I Principal Valentina Hortaleza and all the teachers of the school.
The multi-purpose building, with the Senator shouldering the P6.3M funding for the construction, will be the ninth covered court to be established under the Fernandez administration.
Mayor Fernandez disclosed that the building will help protect the children against the harsh and inclement weather during activities or events, saying: “The students are always affected whenever there are events or activities and there is nothing to help them in the heat and during the rainy season.”
Fernandez also thanked the Senator’s quick response as the project will help ensure the safety of the students.
Meanwhile, a known advocate for education himself, Senator Angara hailed Mayor Fernandez as an “action woman” and lauded the mayor for her continuous campaign for to improve education and for the youth.
“Action woman ang inyong mayor. She is a supporter of education and I hope other cities and municipalities would be able to replicate (what she is doing for Dagupan).”
Corollary to this, Angara and Fernandez also attended a joint graduation ceremony for technical-vocational graduates of TESDA Pangasinan at Instituto Centro Asia, Central Asia Institute of Modern Technology and Sta. Catalina College of Science and Technology.
The graduates received incentives such as massage kits and welding tools from the Senator Angara and Mayor Fernandez that will help them start their respective vocations. (Verdelle De Vera/CIO/Apr. 28, 2018)
