DAGUPAN CITY – The city’s eastern barangays clustered as one clinched the right to represent Bangus Festival in the forthcoming Festivals of the North on April 28 here after winning the Gilon-Gilon ed Baley on April 21.
The eastern barangays lumped in Cluster 1 were Barangays Mangin, Salisay, Bolosan, Tebeng, Mamalingling and Tambac with Mangin as Cluster Leader.
Cluster 1 also won two minor awards as Best in Props and Best in Costume, bringing home with them the grand prize of P150,000 as champion and P20,000 each for the two minor awards or P40,000 for a total of P190,000.
Cluster 5 composed of Barangays Malued, Lasip Grande, Pogo Grande, Pogo Chico, Lasip Chico and Lucao with Malued as Barangay Cluster Leader settled for the first runner-up honor with two minor awards as Best in Street Dance and Best in Showdown.
The group bagged P100,000 as first runner-up, plus P20,000 for Best in Street dance and P10,000 for Best in Showdown or a total of P130,000.
Cluster 4 composed of Caranglaan, Bacayao Sur, Bacayao Norte, Mayombo, and Herrero-Perez with Caranglaan as Barangay Cluster Leader was 2nd runner-up and won the cash prize of P80,000.
The other three clustered barangays received P30,000 each as consolation prize.
This year’s event chairperson was Barangay Pantal Punong Barangay Julie F. Perez whose barangay was a three-time champion both in the Gilon-gilon and Festivals of the North competitions for three consecutive years.
The Gilon-gilon ed Baley was graced by Kapuso Stars of Mulawin vs Ravena like Derrick Monasterio, Bea Binene, Bianca Umali, Miguel Tanfelix and Kiko Estrada.
In her message, Mayor Belen T. Fernandez acknowledged the efforts of the 31 barangays in this year’s Bangus Festival saying, “ang sigla ng ating lungsod ay nakasalalay sa sigla ng mga barangays kung kaya’t ito rin ay pagkilala sa galing ng ating mga barangay officials.” (Joseph C.
