DAGUPAN CITY – This year’s fire prevention month kicked-off in Dagupan City with a fun run and a simple ceremony at the city plaza on March 7 with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Deputy Chief for Administration Chief Superintendent Leonard R. Bañago as guest of honor and speaker.
Joining Bañago was BFP Region 1 Director Senior Superintendent Lilibeth Q. Simangan, Department of Interior and Local Government City Director Rhoderick Dawis and Pogo Chico Punong Barangay Dean Bryan L. Kua, who represented Mayor Belen T. Fernandez.
Fernandez is at present attending the Global Cities Summit 2017 at Dubai from March 7 to 9.
In his message, Bañago pointed out that fire prevention should start from every household thus the theme “Buhay at Ari-arian ay Pahalagaan, Ibayong Pag-iingat ay sa Sariling Pamamahay Simulan”.
Bañago disclosed that based on their statistics the most common victims of fire are those in the residential areas and the most common reason was due to overloaded electrical connections.
“Octopus connections are overloading electrical connections that can cause short circuit and fire. Kaya dapat we should always check on this in our homes from time to time to prevent our properties from getting burned to ashes,” said Bañago.
He also asked the community to support for their campaign especially during the hot summer season, which starts during the month of March.
City Fire Marshal Senior Inspector Romie J. Tungpalan said that aside from the fun run, the other activities of the BFP during the Fire Prevention Month includes poster-making contest, drawing contest, open house, fire drill and fire Olympics. (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO/March 8, 2017)
